Breast Pump Order: Medela will begin shipping the requested breast pumps the week of September 19, 2011. Please remember that the following procedure must be followed in order to verify receipt of shipment for payment and to send the required WIC tags.
- Immediately upon receipt of shipment, please locate the packing slip and verify that your agency received the products and quantities stated.
- Sign the packing slip to verify the order is correct.
- Fax the signed packing slip to Laura Weiler at the state WIC office at 573-526-1470. WIC tags will be mailed upon receipt of your packing slip.
- If your agency did not receive what was stated on the packing slip, please contact the state WIC office immediately.

Food Safety Tips from USDA: The United States Department of Agriculture, the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and the Ad Council are launching a new public service advertising campaign that encourages parents and caregivers to help protect their families from food poisoning by checking their food safety steps. Please see the attached for additional information. If you have questions, please contact your TA Nutritionist. (ONE ATTACHMENT)
Nutrition Education Opportunity: WIC Registered Dietitians, Nutritionists, and Public Health Nurses who serve pre-conceptual, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women will want to take advantage of this two-day National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course Seminar, shown on October 5-6, 2011, in Jefferson City. This year's continuing education program focuses on appropriate nutrition services that can improve pregnancy outcomes, the effects of maternal eating behaviors on birth outcomes and infant health status and development, and the characteristics of model programs and counseling approaches for maternal and infant nutritional health. This training is presented by the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health and will be shown by the WICNS’ Nutrition Training Institute. October 2011 MWA Workshop: The Missouri WIC Association 2011 Biennial Workshop will be October 25th and 26th at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. The registration fee is $150 per person with registration to be completed online at http://mowica.org. Attached is the tentative Workshop agenda with the Opening session beginning at 1:00pm on October 25th and Closing at 12:00pm on October 26th. A block of rooms have been reserved on first come first served basis at Capitol Plaza Hotel (1-800-338-8088) for this event. Please contact the hotel directly mentioning the Missouri WIC Association (MWA) to make room reservations, room rate is $81.00 (single or double). This block of rooms will be held until midnight on 9/24/2011.

JOB OPPORTUNITY - Breastfeeding Peer Counselor-Samuel U. Rodgers-Lexington
3 hours per week; 1 hour is mandatory on Thursday’s: Samuel U. Rodgers WIC Clinic in Lexington, MO is looking for a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor who will work with WIC team members to encourage and support breastfeeding among WIC participants. This position will counsel pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers by telephone and in the WIC office at scheduled intervals; teach prenatal and breastfeeding classes with approved lesson plan provided by the health center.
