  1. Nutrition Coordinator Training Reminder - The Nutrition Coordinator Training is scheduled for June 19th-20th in Jefferson City (DHSS Technical Training Room 920 Wildwood). This training is limited to the first ten registrants. Other registrants will be placed on the roster for the next training session scheduled for Nov 28th-30th 2006. The training is designed to be interactive and covers the various functions of the Nutrition Coordinator position, including planning, coordination, and implementation of all aspects of nutrition and breastfeeding services provided through the local WIC provider office. Prerequisites include successful completion of WIC Tracks 1, 2 and 3, knowledge of the HANDS system, and the ability to maneuver around in the Electronic WIC Operations Manual (E-WOM).   2. MISSOURI TAKES ACTION ON OBESITY - June 29th Plan to attend the Missouri Takes Action on Obesity Conference on June 29th from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. in Jefferson City. Attendees will become familiar with Missouri's Nutrition and Physical Activity Plan to Prevent Obesity, describe evidence-based interventions and best practices to impact obesity, and commit to working on one action in Missouri's Plan. This conference is targeted to a wide audience including local public health agencies, schools, communities, work sites and health care. The registration fee for this conference is $25.00, and continuing education hours will be provided. For information or questions, contact the Bureau of Health Promotion at (573) 522-2820. The American Dietetic Association Center for Professional Development and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services, Nutrition Training Institute are sponsoring a free educational opportunity: Battling Pediatric Overweight Utilizing Web-based Tools for Kid-Friendly Counseling on August 9th from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. This live and interactive phone teleseminar focuses on learning to integrate computers and web-based educational tools into counseling practice for at-risk and overweight youth and their parents, it compares and contrasts counseling considerations and techniques most effective with youth and adults, and it identifies a variety of existing web-based tools, tailors them to the client's readiness to make behavior changes and applies them during a counseling session. It is designed for WIC nutritionists, registered dietitians, private practitioners, nurses, and other allied health professionals who work in clinical and community health settings with children, adolescents and their parents.

The University of Minnesota and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services, Nutrition Training Institute are sponsoring an educational opportunity: 2006 National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course on October 5th & 6th from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This video stream training will be held in Jefferson City at Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. This continuing education program focuses on the improvement of maternal and infant health through the delivery of risk-appropriate high-quality nutrition services. It is designed for dietitians, nutritionists, certified nurse midwives, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, physicians and public health professionals who serve preconceptual, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women. The University of Minnesota conducts this annual course, and has requested continuing education for dietitians and other health professionals. There is no charge for WIC employees. There is a $75.00 non-refundable fee for all other attendees.

  6. This is a reminder that the WIC FY06 mid-year was reached on March 31, 2006, so your mid-year Evaluation should now be completed (ER# 1.03200). For the first time this fiscal year, the Mid-year Evaluation can be found in your Local Agency Plan (LAP) instead of the Technical Assistance Packet (TAP). Complete the Mid-year Evaluation section found on the Goal and Objective(s) Worksheet(s) you completed for your LAP. Submit changes to your goals to your District State Nutritionist. Update the program inventory to include items that have been purchased, received from the state, or donated in the current year. Maintain the evaluation in the LWP office until the LAP is updated in August.

    Note: For those agencies that evaluate their goal with the Management Assessment Part I (895-01) or Part II (896-01), you may use the mid-year counterpart of those reports, Management Assessment Part I (897-01) or Part II (898-01).   1. Training for filling out the FFY 2007 WIC LAP will be conducted July 17, 18 & 19 in Jefferson City at the DHSS Technical Training Room from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. This training is similar to the mandatory training conducted for all local WIC providers last year. This year's training is not mandatory but is recommended for anyone who works on filling out the LAP and did not attend this training last year or those who feel they can benefit from the review.
